The Switch Datacenters AMS4 facility is a flagship infrastructure project strategically positioned in the Amsterdam Science Park South area. As a critical hub within one of Europe’s most interconnected regions, the site is designed to integrate seamlessly with major Amsterdam fiber routes. This prime location ensures ultra low latency and high speed interconnectivity, making it an ideal choice for enterprises requiring rapid data transmission and reliable network access across the continent.

Engineered to meet the rigorous demands of the modern digital economy, AMS4 is a Tier 3 UTI specified facility. This designation guarantees high availability through redundant power technology and modular capacity blocks. The purpose built design allows for a total IT load of up to 14MW, ensuring that the infrastructure remains resilient and scalable. By utilizing a purpose built construction approach, the facility provides a stable environment for mission critical operations.

The facility spans a total building size of 7,400 m², with a significant 4,400 m² dedicated specifically to high density white space for server housing. This layout is optimized for diverse colocation needs, offering everything from shared rackspace and partial cabinets to private cages, suites, and footprints. Beyond the server rooms, the facility includes efficient office spaces, storage areas, and a double loading dock to streamline logistics and equipment deployment.

To maintain peak performance while managing the heat generated by its 14MW load, AMS4 utilizes ultra efficient cooling units. These systems are paired with a state of the art water mist fire extinguishing system, which provides superior protection for sensitive electronic equipment compared to traditional sprinklers. This combination of thermal management and advanced fire suppression ensures the physical integrity of the hardware remains uncompromised under all operating conditions.

Security is a foundational element of the AMS4 facility, which features a fenced perimeter protected by electrified and alarmed fencing. The site adheres to strict international standards, maintaining certifications for ISO 27001 Information Security, ISO 9001 Quality Management, and ISO 14001 Environmental Management. Additionally, it is DSS PCI compliant, ensuring that it meets the rigorous security requirements necessary for handling sensitive financial and payment card data.

Operational since 2021, AMS4 stands as a model for green data center practices. It is committed to 100 percent green power usage and is a signatory to the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact. A standout feature of its environmental strategy is the heat recovery function, which captures excess heat from the servers and redirects it to the local district heating network. This circular energy approach significantly reduces the facility’s carbon footprint while contributing to the local community's energy needs.
