The first IDS & Unitelm Data Center was established in 1995, marking the beginning of their Internet network activities. The initiative was named “Glauco,” symbolically linked to the Greek myth of Glauco and Scilla, representing perseverance, tenacity, continuity, and the concept of immortality. The new Data Center in Rome was inaugurated in October 2016, offering advanced infrastructure to optimize energy consumption, consolidate IT environments, and ensure operational continuity while supporting future growth.
The Rome site features a total building size of 200 sq.m., with 150 sq.m. of fully built-out whitespace. It supports full cabinets, partial cabinets, shared rackspace, and cages, with expandable whitespace to accommodate future requirements. The building has a single floor with a raised floor design and includes a Meet-Me-Room (MMR), conference room, and breakroom to support operational and client needs. The facility is a retrofitted construction designed for multi-tenant usage.
The Data Center provides a fully built-out power capacity of 0.65 MW, with a maximum power per rack of 3 kW and a maximum power density of 3 kW/sq.m. It features 2N UPS redundancy using APC systems, 2N cooling redundancy, and 2N standby power, supporting a Tier 3 design to ensure high availability and continuous operations.
Security is comprehensive, including a fenced perimeter, mantrap entry, CCTV surveillance, card access control, and 24/7 onsite security staff. Fire protection is ensured with automatic fire suppression systems, alongside 24/7 onsite technical support to maintain operational safety.
The Data Center delivers Internet services through three carriers with scalable bandwidth to meet customer performance needs. A secondary Data Center is active to support Disaster Recovery, ensuring continuity for critical systems. The site hosts hundreds of servers, over a thousand websites, approximately 1,800 domains, email services for around 20,000 users, and audio/video streaming services.
The I&U Data Centers are ISO 27001 certified, with extended ISO 27017 and ISO 27018 controls for information security management. The infrastructure is qualified by the National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN) and is available on the Marketplace for public administration.
Additional features include a fully built-out, expandable whitespace, conference and breakroom facilities, and a Meet-Me-Room (MMR) to facilitate connectivity and collaboration, providing a reliable and scalable environment for organizations, companies, associations, and networks.
